Why bankability and certification are demanding
Bankability is not a product attribute, it is an assessment of the supplier behind the product. It combines technical certification, warranty terms, financial stability and the ability to document all three in a form a lender’s technical advisor will accept without a lengthy clarification cycle.
- Certification is market-specific: a standard that satisfies one jurisdiction may not satisfy another, and approvals are frequently required before a tender can be submitted
- Warranty terms routinely contain conditions – documented maintenance, approved installers, specified environmental limits – that owners discover only when making a claim
- A supplier with good products and weak finances is a delivery risk across the construction period and a claim risk across the asset life
- Lender technical advisors require evidence in a specific format, and a supplier who cannot produce it becomes a schedule item on the path to financial close
